The will of God in Christ

[The Glory Unveiled]

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. [ 1 Thessalonians 5:18 NKJV ]

The will of God for us is revealed and fulfilled in Christ Jesus. Outside of Christ, we cannot rightly discern the will of God, because Christ Himself is the full expression of the Father’s heart. This is why Scripture says, “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” The will of God is not merely found in circumstances; it is found in Christ. There are seasons of life that seem to carry no good news at all. Situations arise that appear painful, confusing, unfair, and completely undeserving of thanksgiving. To the natural mind, giving thanks in such moments can look irrational—even foolish. People may wonder how anyone can thank God while everything seems to be collapsing around them. Yet the instruction of Scripture remains unchanged: give thanks in every circumstance—whether good or bad, pleasant or unpleasant, favourable or unfavourable. Why? Because thanksgiving is not a denial of reality; it is confidence in the sovereignty of Christ. Whenever we give thanks, we align ourselves with the will of God. And whenever the will of God is embraced, the power and kingdom of God are enforced. Thanksgiving therefore becomes more than a spiritual courtesy; it becomes a platform for the manifestation of divine power. A thankful believer is standing in agreement with Heaven. The will of God for us in Christ Jesus is thanksgiving because Christ has already gone ahead of us. Our confidence is not in our ability to fix everything, control outcomes, or manufacture results. Jesus has accomplished the work on our behalf. Our responsibility is to trust Him, walk with Him, and thank God for what His finished work will produce. This is why we can thank God even when circumstances seem contrary. We know that Christ is still at work beneath the surface. What appears unfavourable today is not final. The God who works all things together for good is able to turn pain into purpose, battles into testimonies, and delays into instruments of glory. So thanksgiving is not merely a reaction to victory; it is the language of faith in the middle of uncertainty. It is the posture of a believer who knows that because Christ is involved, the end of the matter will be good.
