What do you really want?

[The Glory Unveiled]

Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. ( Matthew 20:32 )

Two blind men heard that Jesus was passing by and they knew that Jesus could restore their sight. So they began to call out to him disregarding all else and keeping their mind and attention on Jesus. Even when the crowd wanted to shut them up; deny them the opportunity to access their breakthrough, they didn’t give in. The story of these two blind men is like the story of most of us. Jesus is the solution to every life problem and most of us are not oblivious to that. But sometimes the reason why our answers seem to hang over our heads is the fact that, we are unable to answer the question that makes our anchor scripture above. “What do you want me to do for you?” is a question that is difficult to answer because many people have misplaced priorities. What do you really want or need amidst all the shadows of the needs you think you have? What is that real need you want God to help with? When we go to pray, we need to make our needs specific. In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus taught His disciples to pray, “give us this day our daily bread”. That was so specific and straight to the point. We need to inculcate this attitude of asking and answering questions right.

Prayer_Bead: Jehovah Jireh, God our provider and sustainer, thank you for showing me the pathway into making requests. Help me to prioritize well and to acknowledge you in all things.

God knows what to do.

[The Glory Unveiled]

He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. ( John 6:6 )

In the verse five of our anchor chapter, Jesus asks Philip what they were going to feed a multitude of people with? But here in the verse six, we read that the question in verse five was a test because Jesus already knew what to do. You see, usually, before a “challenge” or a test comes our way, God knew how the end would be and what He would do with that test and through it. Almost everything that has to do with God is intended to reveal His glory and power. God knows what to do about your situation even before it came. Do you believe that? If you do, you will need not be worried or intimidated by what goes on around you and the words of people or the voice of the systems of this world. Today, as we go out, let us be reminded that God knows whatever we will encounter. Our trust must rest in God’s omniscience and power. Don’t worry when God can handle your situations.

Prayer_Bead: Jehovah Jireh, the Omnipotent Father, thank you for your great love for me and the plans through which you express this love.

Holy Spirit, our partner.

[The Glory Unveiled]

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. ( Romans 8:26 )

Many are the items on our prayers lists. Sometimes there are so many items that we are unable to pray them all. The reason is because of our weaknesses. The flesh burdens us with unnecessary cares that drag us into delay over time. Most of the things we think we need are only the wants of the flesh, the lust of the eyes or the pride of life being voiced through the medium of prayer. So that the fact that we say a lot of things in the name of Jesus does not make them true prayers nor prayers at all according to the charter of heaven. The Bible says that no man knows the spirit of another man except the spirit of that man and no man knows the Spirit of God, except the Spirit of God. In our bid to fellowship and commune with the Spirit of God, we are faced with the challenge of interacting with God through our spirit; interacting with God with the right words and at the right frequency because we do not know the Spirit of God without the assistance of the Holy Spirit. But as many who have the mind of Christ, by accepting His Lordship, have the Holy Spirit interceding for them. Let us align to the Holy Spirit in the place of prayer so that He will pray through us what we ought to pray.

Prayer_Bead: Father in the name of Jesus, thank you for giving me of your Spirit and the opportunity through the blood of Jesus to fellowship with you even with my spirit. Help me to align to you Holy Spirit.

Super ordinary life

[ The Glory Unveiled ]

The sun will no more be your light by day,
nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the LORD will be your everlasting light,
and your God will be your glory.( Isaiah 60:19 )

The Believer is called to extraordinary life. Everything about and around the Believer is supposed to scream “out of ordinary “. Ordinarily, the sun is the giver of light by day and the moon supplies light at night. So that ordinarily, whenever these entities refuse to give light at their designated times, the ordinary man or woman experiences darkness. But here, in this verse of scripture, we see an entirely different situation, one that is not in line with the normal way of things. God says in effect, what used to be our norm will cease to be the norm hence forth. God is using us to break the status quo and to usher in a new order; the order of super ordinary manifestations. Instead of the world or its systems giving us light almost to our detriment, God is now our everlasting light and glory. God does not disappoint, He does not change like the weather. But all these can only be a reality if or when God becomes our Lord and partner. If you have not permitted Him to be Lord over you, please do that today.

Prayer_Bead: Father in heaven, thank you for reconciling me unto yourself through Christ Jesus. I accept the Lordship of Jesus over my life. Forgive me my transgressions and sins. Be my Lord and Saviour, and shine your light in my heart, in Jesus name.

Obey the source

[The Glory Unveiled]

As he went on his way, a lion met him on the road and killed him, and his body was left lying on the road, with both the donkey and the lion standing beside it. ( 1 Kings 13:24 )

The events that led to the scene of this verse of scripture is one that is unimaginable yet full of lessons. A prophet was sent by God from Judah with specific instructions to be carried out in Bethel. He did well to execute his mission but upon his return, he let out some secrets he should have kept for himself or at worst to a selected few. This prophet had announced the secret that sustained him until then to a large gathering so that the children of an old prophet even heard it. They came home to tell their father all that the prophet from Judah had done, and the secret that sustained him. This old prophet, decided to go and deceive the prophet from Judah. He urged him to do the opposite of what God told him to do in the name of “God’s new instruction to him.” The result of his disobedience to God and obeying the words of a man is what we read in the verse above. Now, our lesson: there are certain secrets that must remain secrets between us and God. Whatever God told us in our closet is still valid until, we are convinced otherwise by His Spirit; not by another man, prophet or whoever they may be without first having a witness within us. Let’s stick to God’s word.

Prayer_Bead: Merciful God, Loving Father, thank you for showing us through your word to hold unto your word and to keep secret what needs to be kept secret.
