What do you really want?

[The Glory Unveiled]

Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. ( Matthew 20:32 )

Two blind men heard that Jesus was passing by and they knew that Jesus could restore their sight. So they began to call out to him disregarding all else and keeping their mind and attention on Jesus. Even when the crowd wanted to shut them up; deny them the opportunity to access their breakthrough, they didn’t give in. The story of these two blind men is like the story of most of us. Jesus is the solution to every life problem and most of us are not oblivious to that. But sometimes the reason why our answers seem to hang over our heads is the fact that, we are unable to answer the question that makes our anchor scripture above. “What do you want me to do for you?” is a question that is difficult to answer because many people have misplaced priorities. What do you really want or need amidst all the shadows of the needs you think you have? What is that real need you want God to help with? When we go to pray, we need to make our needs specific. In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus taught His disciples to pray, “give us this day our daily bread”. That was so specific and straight to the point. We need to inculcate this attitude of asking and answering questions right.

Prayer_Bead: Jehovah Jireh, God our provider and sustainer, thank you for showing me the pathway into making requests. Help me to prioritize well and to acknowledge you in all things.

More than bread

[The Glory Unveiled]

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’” ( Luke 4:4 )

The word of God is light and life. It is living water and manna to the soul. Without food or water, the flesh dissipates and growth becomes impossible. The word of God says that God’s word is light and lamp to us, without which we walk in darkness. Unless you have ever walked in darkness, you may not appreciate light. But whatever it takes, every living thing understands the need for food or whatever food means to them. So that there are no living things that continue to grow without feeding on something. In the above scripture, Jesus said, man shall not live on bread alone [but every word that proceeds from the mouth of God]. This is because we are spirit beings and spirit is not sustained by flesh nor does flesh lean on the spirit to grow. Without the word of God, the spirit of man cannot grow; the spirit of man starves without the word of God. And if we cannot starve our flesh, then we surely cannot starve our spirits. Let us consciously feed our spirits with the word of God. Let us drag our spirit to the Lord’s table. Let us pray and fast if we must, to shed off every weight so that we can submit our spirit to the tutelage of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer_Bead: Spirit to spirit, Heart to heart, Lover of my soul, thank you for the bread of life and feeding my spirit with your word. Guide me into constructive growth._

God knows what to do.

[The Glory Unveiled]

He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. ( John 6:6 )

In the verse five of our anchor chapter, Jesus asks Philip what they were going to feed a multitude of people with? But here in the verse six, we read that the question in verse five was a test because Jesus already knew what to do. You see, usually, before a “challenge” or a test comes our way, God knew how the end would be and what He would do with that test and through it. Almost everything that has to do with God is intended to reveal His glory and power. God knows what to do about your situation even before it came. Do you believe that? If you do, you will need not be worried or intimidated by what goes on around you and the words of people or the voice of the systems of this world. Today, as we go out, let us be reminded that God knows whatever we will encounter. Our trust must rest in God’s omniscience and power. Don’t worry when God can handle your situations.

Prayer_Bead: Jehovah Jireh, the Omnipotent Father, thank you for your great love for me and the plans through which you express this love.

Holy Spirit, our partner.

[The Glory Unveiled]

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. ( Romans 8:26 )

Many are the items on our prayers lists. Sometimes there are so many items that we are unable to pray them all. The reason is because of our weaknesses. The flesh burdens us with unnecessary cares that drag us into delay over time. Most of the things we think we need are only the wants of the flesh, the lust of the eyes or the pride of life being voiced through the medium of prayer. So that the fact that we say a lot of things in the name of Jesus does not make them true prayers nor prayers at all according to the charter of heaven. The Bible says that no man knows the spirit of another man except the spirit of that man and no man knows the Spirit of God, except the Spirit of God. In our bid to fellowship and commune with the Spirit of God, we are faced with the challenge of interacting with God through our spirit; interacting with God with the right words and at the right frequency because we do not know the Spirit of God without the assistance of the Holy Spirit. But as many who have the mind of Christ, by accepting His Lordship, have the Holy Spirit interceding for them. Let us align to the Holy Spirit in the place of prayer so that He will pray through us what we ought to pray.

Prayer_Bead: Father in the name of Jesus, thank you for giving me of your Spirit and the opportunity through the blood of Jesus to fellowship with you even with my spirit. Help me to align to you Holy Spirit.

Decree what you desire

[The Glory Unveiled]

You shall also decide and decree a thing, and it shall be established for you; and the light [of God’s favor] shall shine upon your ways. ( Job 22:28 )

When we look carefully at this verse of scripture, we cannot but notice the tone of love. We would also perceive the sincerity of a God who desires for His children to be blessed and independently dependent on Him. So that a love relationship will be established. Whatever God decrees is established no matter what it is. God wills all power and authority, both in heaven and under heaven. Nothing happens or will happen outside of His watch. As such God is permitted by Himself and for His glory to do whatever He pleases. But above all, God does any and everything in love because He is love. God in this verse of scripture enjoins us to also do as He does, decide a thing and decree it into establishment. The objective is to have the light of God’s favour and love shine upon our ways and then the world can see the glory of God in our lives. Beloved, God has given us the privilege to decree what we want to see manifest in our lives and world. Decree a thing today, enforce the truth of God’s word by decree.

Prayer_Bead: Omnipotent Father, thank you for the privilege to decree what I decide. Today, I decree that your will be done on earth and in my life. I decree supplies for me and my household today.
