Stay Awake

[The Glory Unveiled]

But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. [ Matthew 13:25 NKJV ]

The Lord Jesus told a parable about how the enemy of a farmer came at night to sow weeds among the wheat while everyone was asleep. But why did this enemy not come while people were awake? Obviously, he would not have succeeded in his scheme. The believer must understand that not everything that germinates in your life comes from the Lord. Some things are sown by the enemy, whose active time is often your inactive time. The enemy’s advantage lies in the believer’s unconsciousness. A sleeping believer provides the enemy with a window of opportunity. Over time, because this strategy has proved effective, the devil has continued to use it against God’s people. Think back to many of the major temptations you have faced. Did they not often come when a life-changing opportunity or season was before you? The Lord Jesus told His disciples, “Keep watch and pray, so that you will not fall into temptation.” Yet they fell asleep and, as a result, entered into temptation. The enemy’s weed of temptation found fertile ground because the disciples failed to remain watchful. The same principle holds true today. Whenever a believer falls asleep in any area of life—whether spiritually, morally, emotionally, or in discernment—the enemy finds an opportunity to sow weeds in that area. Therefore, stay awake. Be vigilant.
