The believer’s compass

[The Glory Unveiled]

By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. [ Hebrews 11:8 NKJV ]

When God called Abraham, He did not hand him a detailed blueprint. There was no map and no full explanation of the journey ahead. God simply called, and Abraham obeyed. Scripture says he “went out, not knowing where he was going.” Abraham stepped into uncertainty with nothing visible to hold on to except the voice of God. He had no earthly compass, yet he never lost direction because faith became his compass. He was not guided by sight. He was guided by trust. Abraham did not obey because God explained everything. He obeyed because he trusted the One who spoke. His confidence was not in having full information; his confidence was in the character of God. That is the true nature of faith. Faith does not demand complete details before taking the first step. Faith responds to God even when the future is still hidden. And Abraham’s obedience was not a one-time event. It was progressive. At every stage of the journey, he continued to obey God. He did not stop honouring God because he had obeyed Him once before. His walk with God became a continual lifestyle of surrender, trust, and obedience. His faith was revealed through his obedience. We know Abraham believed God because he obeyed God even when he lacked enough natural reason to do so. He was not persuaded by a detailed plan. He was persuaded by trust in God. Is God calling you into something deeper? Is He asking you to move, surrender, let go, begin, forgive, serve, or step out? Are you delaying obedience because you are waiting for clearer details and fuller explanations? Then what you need is the compass of faith. Faith does not always know the destination, but it always knows the One leading the journey.
