The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. [ 2 Corinthians 4:4 NIV ]
The light of the gospel reveals to the lost soul the way out of slavery to sin. But for a man to walk out of bondage, he must first be able to see the door to freedom. Unfortunately, the minds of unbelievers have been blinded, so they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ. The god of this age has blinded many eyes. It manifests in different forms and disguises. Sometimes it appears through new age teachings and philosophies that sound enlightened and reasonable, yet quietly rob the soul of true life. Other times it hides behind religion—through endless dos and don’ts, burdensome rules and outward performances that weary the soul but never transform it. The strategy of the god of this age is simple: make people believe anything except the truth that sets men free. Under its influence, people feel enlightened while remaining spiritually blind. They think they see, yet they cannot recognize the glory of Christ revealed in the gospel. But the light of salvation is still available to all men. The gospel still shines. Christ is still revealed. The tragedy is not that the light is absent, but that many have submitted themselves to the very system that blinds them. This god only blinds those who yield to it, trust in it, and worship it. Yet whenever a man turns to Christ, the veil is lifted. The blinded eyes begin to see, and the soul discovers the freedom that has always been found in Him.
