Mentorship

[The Glory Unveiled]

Also, anoint Jehu son of Nimshi king over Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel Meholah to succeed you as prophet. [ 1 Kings 19:16 NIV ]

Whenever God desires to transmit His purposes on the earth, He does so through human vessels. He deposits divine assignments into the hearts of men and ensures that those assignments are carried from one generation to the next. One of God’s primary means of accomplishing this is mentorship. Mentorship is the lifeline of longevity and continuity. Every enduring legacy, every sustained vision, and every divine mandate that survives the passage of time runs on the track of intentional mentorship. God does not merely establish a work; He raises people to preserve and advance it. When Elijah’s assignment drew to a close, God instructed him to anoint Elisha to carry the prophetic mantle forward. Elijah did not simply hand over his mantle; he invested his life, his convictions, and his spiritual perspective into Elisha until the younger prophet clearly understood both the mission and the vision entrusted to him. Moses did the same with Joshua, preparing him to lead Israel into the Promised Land. Jesus likewise poured Himself into His disciples, shaping them until they became faithful carriers of the gospel to the nations. In each of these examples, mentorship was God’s instrument of transformation. It was through consistent impartation, instruction, correction, and example that ordinary men became extraordinary stewards of divine assignments. Any family, church, ministry, organisation, or institution that desires to preserve its values, maintain its vision, and grow in strength from generation to generation must embrace a culture of mentorship. Vision without mentorship eventually fades, but vision that is intentionally imparted outlives its originator. Your mentor is more than a teacher; he is a living reflection of the path God is calling you to walk. Through godly mentorship, wisdom is transferred, character is formed, and purpose is clarified. Without mentorship, what has been entrusted to you is at risk of ending with you rather than being faithfully passed on to the next generation.
