Spiritual degeneration

[The Glory Unveiled]

Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed. [ Ephesians 4:19 NIV ]

The believer begins the journey of degeneration the moment they lose touch with the Source and Sustainer of their life. According to Scripture, spiritual degeneration follows a discernible progression before a man or woman descends into impurity. It begins with a darkened understanding of God. When our perception of Him is distorted, our discernment is diminished. This darkened understanding gradually dulls our spiritual sensitivity. Our sensitivity to the supernatural—to those realities that cannot be perceived by the natural senses—is what keeps us connected to what is truly real. It is our God-given capacity to discern His voice, recognise His leading, and remain insulated from the subtle influences that destroy destinies. Once that sensitivity is lost, sensuality easily takes its place. Sensuality is not merely the pursuit of sinful pleasures; it is a life governed by the dictates of the senses rather than by the instruction of the Holy Spirit within the human spirit. It is allowing what we see, feel, hear, and desire to become our compass instead of the truth of God. When the sensual realm gains dominion, every form of impurity finds room to thrive. Sin is no longer resisted; it is accommodated. Impurity no longer appears impure. In the moment, it feels reasonable, justifiable, and even right because the senses have become the highest authority. But there is a way back. To break free from the grip of sensuality, we must put on the mind of Christ. We do this by listening to Him, learning from Him, and submitting to His instruction with a spirit of humility. As we yield ourselves to His truth, the Holy Spirit renews us from within. Our understanding is illuminated again, our spiritual sensitivity is restored, and we are empowered to walk in purity rather than be ruled by our senses.
