[The Glory Unveiled]
May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. [ Romans 15:5-6 NIV ]
Christ Jesus is our true example in everything. Essentially, everything the Lord Jesus did on earth flowed from His mental attitude. His mindset was like an encoding within His behaviour that directed His actions and words. The Scripture above says that we should have the same attitude toward one another through the endurance and encouragement that come from God. It also says that by this attitude we can be of the same mind and voice in glorifying God. This means that true oneness in the body of Christ can only come from possessing the mindset of Jesus. When we bring our minds into a condition where we see things as Jesus sees them, we will begin to act as Jesus acted. However, the defining characteristic of the mind of Christ is humility. The mindset of Jesus is framed in humility, and this is how He was able to remain one with the Father while on earth, speaking with the Father’s voice and bringing Him glory. Although the Lord Jesus was co-equal with the Father, He did not treat it as something to grasp for selfish independence or self-exaltation. Instead, He submitted Himself to the Father so that He could remain fully aligned with Him. This shows us that without humility and submission to one another in love, true unity is impossible. We can also understand from this why some marriages become chaotic. Even though husband and wife are meant to be one, many couples lack true unity because the mindset that produces oneness is absent. True oneness comes through humility and submission, yet these are the very things many couples are unwilling to give to one another. The mindset of Jesus is anchored in humility, and we will do well to embrace that same mindset in love.
